Late Term Abortion in Georgia

If you are seeking a late-term abortion in Georgia, Capital Women's Group is here to help you. In May 2019, Georgia governor Brian Kemp, signed the "Fetal Heartbeat Bill" which bans abortion in Georgia once a fetal heartbeat can be detected. A heartbeat usually begins so early in a pregnancy that many women don't even know they are pregnant yet. This law was signed in May, and will take effect in 2020. Even before the law is enforced, late term abortion care still may not be available in Georgia because of laws which limit the availability of late term abortions.

Georgia's current law on abortion allows procedures up to 21.6 weeks, however, there are only a few providers in the state that provide this service and no providers can provide late term abortion care. But we are ready to help women from Georgia who need a later abortion - whether a late second trimester abortion or even a third trimester abortion.

Washington, DC does not have the same legal restrictions as Georgia, so abortions are legal here up to any gestation - even up to 36 weeks. This means that Capital Women's Group may be able to help you in getting late term abortion care.

Because our office is in an area that does not have such strict restrictions as Georgia, there are other advantages for choosing Capital Women's Group. We do not require parental consent for patients who are minors, and we do not have unnecessary and burdensome waiting period laws that Georgia has. In most cases, Capital Women's Group offers late second and third trimester abortion care to all women without imposing difficult restrictions.

In Georgia, any abortion that is performed after 13 weeks must be done in a hospital or surgical center, which can be very expensive. Our doctors are all board-certified Ob/Gyns who are all experienced abortion providers and who have all held medical school faculty positions and full admitting privileges at university hospitals. Under certain circumstances, we can offer later term abortion care to Georgia women, and we can offer such late 2nd trimester abortion care and 3rd trimester abortion care in either in a university hospital or in our outpatient facility.

If you are traveling to Capital Women's Group for a late term abortion, you may need to make travel arrangements. Capital Women's Group talented and caring patient advocacy team can help you with your travel arrangements.
